IP CCTV Cameras

Internet Protocol CCTV Cameras are digital cameras that processes and digitizes analog images, internally encodes them and digitally transmits the video through an Ethernet connection to computers or other gadgets. It either has a CMOS sensor or a CCD sensor which is available in the likes of traditional surveillance style devices. These cameras have an embedded web server which can be accessed and controlled with any kind of IP networks like WAN; LAN etc. with the use of a standard web browser, the users can access the IP’s video output from any remote place.

IP cameras are a blend of PC functions and a camera which do not need a direct PC connection for its operation or needs to be placed anywhere in or around the network and require maintenance. IP Cameras are network gadgets with their own IP addresses and establish a direct connection to a wired or a wireless network.

Conventional CCTV Cameras

An analog or conventional CCTV camera comes with a CCD sensor and digitizes the images to process them. However, before transferring the video, it needs to convert back the videos to analog so that it can be in a receptive form by the analog device like recorder or a video monitor. The conventional cameras do not require maintenance as they lack the built-in web servers and encoders. The recording or control functions are carried out through other devices.

IP Vs Conventional

IP cameras function nicely in well lighted conditions and have high definition capturing qualities. On the other hand, Conventional cameras do not have much lighting issues and capture motion excellently. Conventional cameras transfer the video data uncompressed whereas IP cameras compress the data before monitoring it.

Now, it depends totally on the purpose for which the user wants to install the CCTV camera to decide upon the type he would get.

Things to take note before installing CCTV

In the modern society, it is not rare to find security cameras in shops, car park or even the interior of an apartment regardless whether you stay in HDB or not. However, what are some things to take note before installing one?

What type of security system you need. There are many different types of security system available in the market. You need to check out what type suits your need the best. If you’re not sure of what type to get, you can check with the company you decide to hire for more information. The professionals are able to advice you on the best security system for your needs.
Where to install it. The location of where you install the camera is important. You need to pick out a location whereby you’re able to view it clearly. Example, you open a store, you need to place your camera strategically at places that is easy for you to view your entire store. This is so as shoplifters are not stupid, therefore they will try to avoid your security camera.
The amount of cameras you need. If you own a big store, the amount of cameras you need will definitely be more than one. It will be great for you to place your cameras at places whereby there’s no blind spot. However, you can also save money but not flooding your store with 50 security cameras. Decide the amount you need.
Your budget. Different companies offer different prices, especially their installation fees. There are different security systems as well, so this will affect the price too. Based on the security system you need, set out your budget. There is no point exceeding your budget when you can get it cheaper at another company for the same exact security system.
Before installing one, check with the company on the durability of the security system you wish to install under proper maintenance. You can do some research on the brand of the CCTV offered by the company and check out some reviews to see if they are able to last for a few years. It can be pretty taxing for you to keep changing your security system because it means you have to re-learn on how to use the other security system all over again.
User-friendly. If you’re reading this article, chances are you have not installed a CCTV before. If so, your security system should be user-friendly and easy for you to use. What’s the point of getting a CCTV whereby you are not sure of how to use it effectively?
Maintaining CCTV security system. Not all companies offer this service, but you can consider a company that is able to do so. They can inspect your security system annually to ensure optimal performance of your CCTV, and let you know when it is time to change to a new security system based on your needs.
CCTV installation companies. It is always good to do some research on the company you plan to hire for their services. You would not want a company that does a half-hearted job and leave you with a CCTV system that needs constant repairing work to be done. You’ll just end up wasting your time and money on it. The best way to know whether the company is good or not is to check on their reputation. Alternatively, you may consider CCTV companies that your family or friends recommend.
Make sure that after you installed your CCTV, you have to put “CCTV in operation” sign within the boundaries. This can act as a deterrent to others that have evil intent especially when you’re installing the CCTV in your store. Thief are usually more wary against shops with CCTV and this can effectively reduce the amount of shoplifting incidents.

At the end of the day, it is good to know that CCTV is not a prevention to crimes, but more of a deterrent.
