Of recent, people are found confused in opting for CCTV cameras because of the different sets of advantages and drawbacks that IP cameras and Conventional or Analog cameras has to offer. Before deciding on which camera to get installed, look at some of the features of both the CCTV cameras.



IP CCTV Cameras

Internet Protocol CCTV Cameras are digital cameras that processes and digitizes analog images, internally encodes them and digitally transmits the video through an Ethernet connection to computers or other gadgets. It either has a CMOS sensor or a CCD sensor which is available in the likes of traditional surveillance style devices. These cameras have an embedded web server which can be accessed and controlled with any kind of IP networks like WAN; LAN etc. with the use of a standard web browser, the users can access the IP’s video output from any remote place.

IP cameras are a blend of PC functions and a camera which do not need a direct PC connection for its operation or needs to be placed anywhere in or around the network and require maintenance. IP Cameras are network gadgets with their own IP addresses and establish a direct connection to a wired or a wireless network.



Conventional CCTV Cameras

An analog or conventional CCTV camera comes with a CCD sensor and digitizes the images to process them. However, before transferring the video, it needs to convert back the videos to analog so that it can be in a receptive form by the analog device like recorder or a video monitor. The conventional cameras do not require maintenance as they lack the built-in web servers and encoders. The recording or control functions are carried out through other devices.



IP Vs Conventional

IP cameras function nicely in well lighted conditions and have high definition capturing qualities. On the other hand, Conventional cameras do not have much lighting issues and capture motion excellently. Conventional cameras transfer the video data uncompressed whereas IP cameras compress the data before monitoring it.

Now, it depends totally on the purpose for which the user wants to install the CCTV camera to decide upon the type he would get.
